Dear [Name,fallback=]
If you are looking to take advantage of the current prices and secure a quality line of steers with good genetics that are set to go ahead quickly with compensatory growth, the below lots are well worth a look at.
Assessor Comments
A great line of quality young Shorthorn steers that have been born into a good season and show the softness that Moombidary Shorthorns are known for. Steers handled very well throughout the assessment. This is a great opportunity to purchase top quality Shorthorn steers. These steers have decades of breeding behind them and will not disappoint on grass or grain. Ideal steers to take on and grow out for other markets. Steers have been in and around yards for the past 6 weeks due to extended mustering. I expect the steers to go ahead quickly with good compensatory weight gain. Market Access Opportunities for Shorthorn Genetics
Wednesday, 29th May 2024
To users of Shorthorn Genetics,
The Shorthorn Beef board have been working hard on increasing market acceptance for Shorthorn
genetics across the supply chain. Whilst we were disappointed in the decision from JBS to pause
cattle going into the Thousand Guineas brand, we believe that this creates opportunities for
Shorthorn genetics in other supply chains throughout Australia.
The Shorthorn Beef board have been in serious “commercial in confidence” discussions with several
major meat processing and feedlot businesses over the past six months. The aim of these discussions
has been to open market opportunities for shorthorn genetics that allow access into premium export
brands. These businesses have geographical spread and are looking to capture different segments
across the supply chain. These businesses acknowledge and want to capitalise on the eating quality
of shorthorn genetics to the consumer and provide a point of differentiation in their existing
brands. The results of the recent survey that we conducted has provided a good basis for the
discussion around supply, steer and heifer turnoff and what our members are looking for in terms of
market access.
During the coming months one of the organisations will process some shorthorn cattle that they have
had on fed within their organisation. Shorthorn Beef will work closely with these guys over this
time as they analyse the results and determine the future path. We know that the consumer is very
keen to see Shorthorn product back on their menus and this no doubt creates demand for our product.
The Shorthorn Beef board also has a strategy to engage with all segments of the supply chain to
create market access opportunities for Shorthorn genetics across many geographically points. This
will be achieved and not limited too - agent education, feedlot industry participation and open and
frank discussions with meat processors to ensure that they are aware of the intrinsic benefits for
Shorthorns and how that delivers a positive eating experiences to consumers.
We feel as a board that there are many opportunities exist within the supply chain for Shorthorn
genetics, and as one door closes, many more are opening up! We will keep our valued members
informed as the opportunities develop.
